San Diego

Nobody would consider San Diego a "town", but this experience is so peculiar, I felt it needed a review.

I've never seen more motorhomes, RVs, and camper vans than here in San Diego.

Fiesta Island, Torrey Pines, Ocean Beach, they all have upper/middle class people boondocking by choice.

For the most part, they don’t seem to be under unfortunate circumstances, these are mostly people who are well off and freely camping out on public beachfront.

The situation seems to be: since COVID put a lot of folks on the street, CA as a whole has been much more relaxed about public camping. I believe many upper class folks are just taking advantage of that relaxed policy.

Now the police don't just turn a blind eye. Technically there are "no overnight parking" signs all over the place, but there's just too many people camping. The police, according to some RVs who have been boondocked all summer, tend to do sweeps occasionally however it's rare.
