Purchase Van

I decided to purchase a 2020 Ford Transit 350 High Roof. There were cheaper alternatives but I wanted RWD because at a steep positive incline (as most mountainous roads are) all the weight lies on the rear wheels.

I've never purchased a used car, and know absolutely nothing about cars so i felt it safest to purchase a new one, especially considering I'll be taking it to remote locations and I'd hate to worry about breakdowns. Plus Ford tends to have the most mechanics throughout the country, so that provides a bit of peace of mind.

High roof was an important factor because being able to stand in the van makes it more homey and gives more space in the “garage” for outdoor gear!

Most dealerships will give you a discount if you decide to finance through them, so I did that and then re-financed through a credit union whose APR was ~ 1%.

There’s no reason not to finance if you can get a super low term sheet, because for the most part your money is better off in the market earning interest.
